Hi I love fashion, looking around for a bargain and having lots of fun mixing and matching accessories. I've also come to realise that how we feel has a great influence on what we wear and over the coming weeks I would like to share some of my thoughts and ideas on the way our self esteem and self confidence affects the way we dress and how this can have a big influence on our general well being. How often do we go to our wardrobes, sift through the crammed rails and drawers and after much deliberation decide that despite owning an array of skirts, dresses, tops, trousers, suits and shoes we really haven't anything to wear for that night out with the girls. It's a well told story for all of us, we have a tendency to wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time, they can become familiar and very comfy, it's much easier when we are in a rush, and these days this tends to be the norm for everyone, to pick out the dress or suit that we know always "goes" than wear something completely different and run the risk of it not feeling "just right" when we put it on. The same thing can happen at weekends, that really comfortable pair of jeans we've had for years, the t shirt and trainers that have certainly seen better days become our normal day wear and the clothes we know we could wear but don't get pushed further back into the cupboard.
A great way to utilise all our clothes is to have a wardrobe detox at least once a year, and as the saying goes “there’s no time like the present” It allows us to sort, organise, recycle and find those long lost clothes that have been hiding in the depths of our wardrobes. It's good to be brutally honest with ourselves when sorting clothes as we can sometimes become emotionally attached to them, however if we haven't worn it for two years, it's too loose or too tight, is fraying around the edges, has changed from pristine white to pale grey or the shoes we thought would stretch and didn't but cost £75, it really is time to let them go. The extra space we make in our wardrobes allows us to see exactly what clothes we have and if we need to do a little retail therapy to replace some of the things we've just recycled, so much the better. With the busy lives we lead we've no need to do it all in one day, sorting a drawer, a shelf or one side of the wardrobe when we have a half hour spare is a great way to go as we don't feel overwhelmed and a really good tidy up can give us a fantastic sense of achievement and be so good for the soul !!
Warm regards
